What IVN Invests in its Ventures

Once selected, our ventures join our program implemented by our volunteering mentors and professional team. We believe that only a combination of the three - mentoring, capacity building and financial support - can bring the venture to true sustainability and success. IVN is unique in that we are the only venture philanthropy in Israel that finances and gives loans towards capacity building and core budgets, as we believe that an organization needs to be able to invest in itself and not just in its products.

All program elements are carried out for 2, and where needed up to 3, years. Mentoring may continue if needed beyond the 2-3 years.

Gvanim is missing the business experience, know-how and perspective. Our relationship with IVN is a partnership which generates success. IVN and Gvanim are like Ying and Yang.

Mentoring

Mentors are members of the IVN network, who are among the leading business entrepreneurs in Israel and the US with many years of business, strategic, marketing, funding, technical, and financial expertise to share.

Mentorship is done on a volunteer basis. Every venture receives close guidance from at least one dedicated volunteer mentor and access to a team of horizontal mentors while included in the program.

What the mentor brings to his/her assigned venture:
Each mentor commits to at least one face-to-face meeting every three to four weeks. In addition, communication lines are open – phone and e-mail.  The mentorship can include all or some of the following areas, based on the needs of the individual program:
  • Guidance throughout
  • Strategic planning
                ~ Business plan formulation
                ~ Competitive advantage analysis
~ Best business model for creating impact
                ~ Growth models
  • Financial management strategy
  • Networking (for the purpose of growth)
  • Marketing strategy
  • Organizational management/infrastructure
Where necessary, mentors also provide support on a more operational level

 Capacity Building
Through a combination of workshops, meetings, lectures and enrichment courses given by professionals and specialists, we provide our entrepreneurs and their ventures with the tools necessary to develop a stable infrastructure and transform their initiatives from being high potential to high impact. We have tracked significant change in our work so far. Building on this success, we are now enlarging the "toolbox" of resources that we offer our entrepreneurs:
  • Strategy & tactics
  • Board development
  • Financial management
  • Income generation
  • Marketing
  • Managing staff and volunteers
  • Presentation & communication skills
  • Measurement & evaluation

Funding
Each venture is provided with a capacity building grant. How this grant is used is determined by the needs of the venture and defined within the mentorship process.
In addition, IVN has a loan fund. These are interest-free loans, allocated based on the discretion of IVN's Loan Allocation Committee. The loans are offered in addition to the capacity building grants in order to help them grow their venture, develop their income generation capacity and enable them to focus on their program, remain stable and ultimately reach true sustainability.
